Jobs Finance Home
The world of finance is a great place for jobs. The world of finance is an ever-expanding and changing industry where new minds and capable employees are welcomed and well rewarded. Is this a career path for you? Well if so then there are several steps you should consider.
Many people see studying and working as separate activities and to a certain extent they are. But it is possible to combine the two. If you are a tertiary student studying economics, accountancy, finance and law, etc., then you could consider working part-time during your degree days. Many companies welcome part-time employees and especially those who are majoring in financial subjects. You could work in a financial institution like a bank or in the finance department of almost any type of company. The larger the organization the more likely you are to find employment.
It could even be possible to work full-time during your university vacation. The benefits of this are many. First you get to see how an employer operates. You give yourself the inside running when the time comes for you to apply for a job in the finance industry. And you can build a reputation with your work ethic even though you are still studying. Once your degree is finished you can hit the employment market at top speed. And to top it all off, your work experience can assist in your studies making it a two-way street full of benefits.
Banks like the best
Of course your qualifications and grades are important but financial institutions also look to would-be applicants for their leadership qualities. If you have experience in student bodies, sport, the arts, etc. as a leader, don’t hide your light under a bushel. Banks in particular look for people with initiative.
And don’t think you have to be some sort of geek in the world of finance to impress finance employers. Banks look to find all-round people, those who have had experience in a variety of fields. Sure, good grades in your degree help but what are your life skills and experiences? How will you interact and possibly lead others? Are you able to adapt to new ideas and methods and can you handle a crisis with aplomb? Finance jobs are for specialists who have a good grasp on all aspects of life and who are good at dealing with people be they fellow employees or customers.
From other disciplines too
If you have studied subjects not directly related to the world of finance, don’t disregard finance jobs as a career path for you. Many banks think outside the box. They employ people who have majored in non-finance topics such as psychology and marketing. Just because you are not an accountant or economist doesn’t mean you can’t apply for a job in the finance industry.
You only have to look at any television news bulletin today to see the constant reporting on economic matters. Exchange rates, share prices and global financial problems dominate many news bulletins. This finance area offers employment to a wide variety of skilled and qualified people. There are jobs in finance aplenty and if you’re keen, you should have no trouble in finding the vacancies.
